| Provincial
Business Climate
Saskatchewan is committed to creating a viable and inhabitable
business environment. The province has taken great strides
to facilitate new development and continued prosperity
for existing establishments:
- In Saskatchewan, the sales tax applies to certain
goods and services. This amount
is the lowest sales tax for provinces that operate with provincial sales tax.
- Removal of the provincial sales tax on toll-free phone
services has encouraged national companies and
organizations – Sears, CIBC and the Canadian Cancer
Society – to establish telephone call centres in Saskatchewan.
- Removal of the provincial sales tax on direct
agents used in manufacturing and processing has resulted
in many business expansions.
- The corporation income tax rate for small businesses
was 4.5 percent as of 2007 with eligible income threshold of
$450,000 and will increase to $500,000 on July 1, 2008.
- The corporation income tax rate on profits
made by manufacturers and processors
is as low as 10 per cent (the lowest in western Canada),
- Manufacturers and processors are eligible for a seven per cent tax credit
on equipment purchases.
- There is a 15 per cent research and development non-refundable
provincial tax credit for a wide array of industries.
- The Saskatchewan film industry is eligible for a tax
credit up to 55%.
- Provincial sales tax on aviation turbo fuel
has been reduced to 1.5 cents per litre to encourage the airline industry to increase fuel purchases in Saskatchewan
- Saskatchewan centres enjoy a relatively low
cost of living compared with other jurisdictions.
- Corporate Capital Tax on new capital investments and
resource surcharges have been eliminated as of July 1,
2006.
- Refundable investment tax credit for manufacturing and
processing.
