  • Moose Jaw 1903 - 2003Overall, there are four recurring themes, or categories into which that the groups could focus their attention. These are:
    • Moose Jaw as a place to visit
    • Moose Jaw as a place to locate or expand a business
    • Moose Jaw as a place to work
    • Moose Jaw as a place to live
  • Within each of the above areas, are a number of issues and initiatives. The collective Pride and Promise partner groups are undertaking actions under each category.
  • The following activity has been noted relevant to the four growth areas:
    • Moose Jaw as a place to visit
      • From 1996 to 2004 there are over 375 more hotel rooms (an increase of 45.5%) for over 825 hotel rooms available.
      • 266,000 travelers visited Moose Jaw in the first 9 months of 2004 and they spent $39.7 million during that period.  Total expenditures for 2004 exceeded well over $40 million.
    • Moose Jaw as a place to locate or expand a business
      • 2006 Retail Sales estimates are $513.9 million up 9.6% from 2005 - The 2006 per capita retail sales for Moose Jaw are 25% above the national average.
      • Ninety percent of manufacturing companies surveyed in 2003 were in business in 1990 and remain in business today.
      • Raider Industries recently expanded its Moose Jaw operations, the company is a major manufacturer of trucks caps.
      • CJay Trailers started operations in September of 2005, the company specializes in building enclosed trailers.
      • General Cable's Moose Jaw plant has expanded its current operations by adding a production shift.  The additional shift will allow the manufacturer to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
      • Local manufacturers and processors report that employee work ethic is considered to be very good with all companies reporting it as good to excellent.   Employee skill level for assigned tasks was also given a very high rating with 95% rating it as good to excellent.
    • Moose Jaw as a place to work
      • A new retail complex was completed along Thatcher Drive and now houses Marks Work Warehouse, Payless Shoes, Staples and Reitman's.  The commercial development in this area has significantly increased the retail trade for the City.
      • General Cable's Moose Jaw facility received the 2005 Industry Week Best Plant award.  This annual award honors manufacturers who continually seek out ways to improve their facility
    • Moose Jaw as a place to live
      • 2005 continued to be a hot housing market year as an additional 60 housing units were started.  Since 2003, 189 housing units have been constructed in Moose Jaw.
      • The average house price for previously owned homes in 2005 was $97,181.  This amount is up 15.1% from 2004 and 51% from 1998.
      • Moose Jaw still has the most affordable housing out of 11 prairie province cities with populations above 25,000 people
